  • Purpose

    The mission of the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) is to spur green growth through better public-private collaboration at a high-level platform that will frame the successful transition to a global green economy.

    3GF provides participants with a unique opportunity for interaction across globally leading governments, businesses and experts to collectively realise substantial growth opportunities. The Forum will provide an interactive arena to develop ideas and opportunities for joint action and enable strategic and practical learning across sectors, countries and projects at a national and international level.

  • Preparation

    During December 2010 in Cancun, Denmark announced that it was launching 3GF in cooperation with the government of South Korea. On 12 May 2011, during the visit of the South Korean president to Denmark, 3GF was officially launched as a global public-private partnership and the founding partners were presented to the international media and public. The launch took place at a roundtable in Copenhaguen, hosted by the former Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and the Korean President Lee Myung-Bak. 
  • A strategic 3GF workshop, attended by a selected number of high-level representatives from the public and private sector was conducted on 13 May 2011 to set the priorities for the process and deliverables for the inaugural Forum. This in turn has helped to shape the content, strategy and direction of 3GF.
  • The actual 3GF was then formally launched on October 11-12 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Forum’s inaugural event was attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, 12 Ministers and deputy Ministers, five leaders of UN organizations, 50 global corporate leaders, leading civil society organizations and world leading experts. The 200 participants came from 27 countries across five continents. 

  

  • Outcome

    Denmark and the other governmental 3GF partners will feed key outcomes and conclusions into high-level political processes, negotiations and forums at national and international level. As upcoming EU president, Denmark will take recommendations from 3GF to Rio+20 and to the EU’s green growth agenda. In addition, Korea and Mexico, as strategic partners, will help link outcomes to the G20. The Forum will present and promote key recommendations at the UNFCCC COP17 in Durban, late in 2011, and at adjoining events, such as the World Climate Summit 2011.

    3GF is coordinating with the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM)* and the World Economic Forum to strengthen public-private collaboration on clean energy as an important component of green growth. Selected outcomes and recommendations from the 3GF sessions will flow into the third meeting of the CEM in London in April 2012, as well as its related initiatives, which will in turn help to inform the strategic focus of 3GF 2012.
  • Key recommendations and outcomes from 3GF, along with a profile of featured public-private partnerships, will be communicated in a post  3GF 2011 Report.
  • *The CEM is a global forum that brings together clean energy leaders from economies representing more than 90 percent of global clean energy investment. Through high-level policy dialogue among energy ministers, working-level cooperation to drive progress across a variety of clean energy fields, and engagement with the private-sector, the CEM aims to accelerate the transition to clean energy technologies.
